Seborrheic Keratosis
Our board-certified Dermatology & Cosmetic Surgery experts are here to help you look as good as you feel.
What are seborrheic keratoses?
Seborrheic keratoses are common, non-cancerous skin growths that tend to occur as people age. They can be brown or black and have a warty appearance.
Seborrheic keratoses are frequently found on the chest, back, neck, and head. They can sometimes be irritated with itching or rubbing.
How is Seborrheic Keratosis Diagnosed?
A dermatologist’s exam is frequently all that is needed. The seborrheic keratosis can be biopsied or removed if there is a concern.
What are the treatment options for seborrheic keratosis?
- Minor surgery to remove the growth (curettement)
- Shave biopsy
- Chemical peel
- Laser surgery
What can you expect?
Before any procedure, you will have a consultation with our expert cosmetic dermatologists. The physician will listen to you, perform a thorough evaluation, and provide an individualized treatment plan to address your needs and concerns.
Any seborrheic keratosis causing irritation can be removed with almost no downtime. Most patients can resume normal activities the next day. Because seborrheic keratoses are benign (non-cancerous) growths, insurance companies often will not pay for their removal. Often, there is an out-of-pocket cost that is not covered by insurance associated with the removal of seborrheic keratoses.
Is treatment of seborrheic keratosis safe?
All procedures carry some risk. However, complications from treatment procedures for seborrheic keratosis are uncommon when performed by board-certified cosmetic dermatologists.
