Dr Stepien is meticulous, skilled, experienced and caring. She is a one of the most talented doctors I have ever met. After my procedure I was supposed to see bruises. Not only I hardly see any bruising I barely feel any pain. The rest of the team is lovely and caring as well. I highly recommend Jax Dermatology and I am happy to be their patient.

What Are Botox and Dysport?
Both Botox® and Dysport® are FDA-approved neuromodulators made from botulinum toxin type A. They work by temporarily relaxing the muscles that cause wrinkles and fine lines, especially those caused by facial expressions like frowning, squinting, and raising your brows.
Although the goal of both treatments is the same, there are some important differences in how they behave in the body.
Feature
Botox®
Dysport®
Molecular Size
Larger molecule
Smaller, more diluted molecule
Onset of Results
3–5 days
1–3 days
Duration
3–4 months
3–4 months (may last slightly longer for some)
Spread/Diffusion
More localized
Spreads more easily
Best for
Precise, small areas
Larger treatment areas (like forehead)
FDA Approval
2002 for cosmetic use
2009 for cosmetic use
Onset & Duration: How Quickly Will You See Results?
Dysport tends to kick in faster—most patients notice softening of lines within 1 to 3 days.
Botox may take slightly longer, with visible results starting around 3 to 5 days and full results at 7–10 days.
Both treatments typically last 3–4 months, though some patients find that Dysport may last slightly longer, particularly in dynamic areas like the forehead.
Precision vs. Spread: Which Works Best for Your Area?
The spread of the product matters depending on the area being treated:
Botox is ideal for smaller, more targeted areas, like the crow’s feet or around the mouth.
Dysport spreads more quickly, making it great for larger areas like the forehead, but it may not be the best choice if you need ultra-precise correction.
Our providers in Jacksonville tailor your dosing and injection points based on the product, muscle strength, and aesthetic goals.
Are There Any Differences in Side Effects?
Both Botox and Dysport are very safe when administered by trained professionals. You may experience temporary redness, swelling, or mild bruising at the injection site.
Rare but possible side effects include:
Headache
Drooping eyelid (if injected improperly)
Mild pain at injection site
That’s why it’s essential to choose a board-certified dermatologist or cosmetic injector with deep knowledge of facial anatomy and experience with both products.
Cost Considerations: Is One More Affordable?
Dysport is often priced lower per unit but requires more units per treatment area than Botox. That said, the overall cost is usually similar.
Does One Look More Natural Than the Other?
When injected correctly, both Botox and Dysport deliver natural-looking results. It’s not about which product is more natural but how your injector uses them.
At our Jacksonville clinic, we prioritize:
Preserving facial expression (no “frozen face”)
Subtle, elegant outcomes
Custom plans based on muscle movement, facial shape, and aging pattern
